Possibly in response to public admiration, Julian Wilson has been nominated for a bravery award.
The announcement was made just awhile ago.
No one is as surprised as Wilson's mother, Nola. But she knows her son came to Mick Fanning's rescue because it was the natural thing to do. "I know how Julian will feel - he's the reluctant hero that's for sure, but I guess in retrospect, it's an honour."— AnnastaciaPalaszczuk (@AnnastaciaMP) July 21, 2015
While there's been some backlash from certain individuals over the last day, Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk is in awe, her thoughts reflecting the majority of the public."He put his own safety aside and disregarded the obvious risk to his life so he could help a fellow Queenslander. Anyone who paddles towards a shark attack instead of away from it is pretty brave in my books - I don't know too many people who would have done that."
Some have said that Wilson was downright stupid for paddling towards Fanning and the shark, while most feel it was the most brave and honourable action anyone could take. Amongst the mixed opinions, one thing is for sure. It was all about a friend helping a friend in need.
